The Audience measurement shows how many people are in an audience e.g. radio, television viewer/listenership is the most common method of measuring the audience, sometimes this can measure who the audience is rather than the numbers of people 'tuning in'.






 
 






Ratings are a measurement are used to show the popularity of tv shows via a device that is fitted into your tv and everything you watch gets recorded, this information is transmitted to Nielsen Ratings where the audience size and composition is determined, another option is where the viewers themselves record what they watch instead of it being surveyed on a device however, this is a lot less popular due to the practicality of a device that does that job for you







Face-to-Face Interviews surveys define the characters of the population of certain homes and areas and can be represented for a panel which is drawn.












A Focus Group is usually a demographically diverse group of people put together to take part in a guided discussion about a particular product before it is launched, or to provide feedback on a political campaign, television series etc...














A questionnaire is done so you can receive information on opinions and what an audience has to say about what it is you are asking them about. creators of media pieces want to know what's going right and wrong for them in the publics eye so they can adjust and meet the target audiences needs.










BARB which stands for broadcaster’s audience research board. This is a uk based company that measure what is being watched and how many people are watching it. Some of the channels that are a part of it are the BBC, itv companies , channel 4 , channel 5. Research agencies such as BARB fun audience research agencies which classify and profile audiences in order to help the industry stay in touch with changing tastes and ensure that they are targeting their products correctly.
